INTIMACY OVER INTENSITY
In a meeting yesterday, a scripture my pastor referred to struck me. It was a good reminder that as believers, we have to place our knowing and doing the Lord’s will far above any religious activities.
Matthew 7:21-23 (WEB) says
21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter into the Kingdom of Heaven, but he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.
22 Many will tell me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, didn’t we prophesy in your name, in your name cast out demons, and in your name do many mighty works?’
23 Then I will tell them, ‘I never knew you. Depart from me, you who work iniquity.’
It is possible to be SEEN AND CELEBRATED by men and yet be REJECTED in eternity. Indeed, man looks at the outward appearance but God looks at the heart.
Having spiritual gifts does not mean one is truly spiritual and accepted by God.
One can be an achiever in the eyes of men and not in the eyes of God.
One can be intensely involved in the work of the Lord and may have lost touch with the Lord of the work. Let’s seek, thirst and hunger to know the Lord intimately, to know His Word, ways, will, wisdom, works and whole counsel.
While being BUSY doing God’s work, iniquity may creep in and be left unaddressed and unrepented of. In humility and sincerity, shouldn’t we from time to time ask the Lord to put his searchlight into our hearts to see if there’s any hidden iniquity?
The hope of reigning with Jesus in Heaven can be dashed, this is fearful!
May the Lord help us to combine intimacy with God with intensity in doing His will.
At the end of the day, I pray that we are welcomed into Heaven by the Lord with the words “Well done my faithful servant” not “Depart from me, you workers of iniquity”.
May our lives always give glory to God, bless humanity, and be a holy preparation for eternity with Jesus!
